How many years have you spent studying and/or working in the Vancouver Post Production industry? Of the 25 years that I have worked in film (starting first in the Art department) 12 of them have been in Post Production working directly in Post Admin, VFX on the production and facility side, and finishing at Company 3.

What is your favourite project that you've worked on, and why?
I have so many favourite projects from Watchmen to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Muppets Wizard of Oz, which holds a soft spot in my heart. I would, however, have to say my favourite project was Elysium working in VFX and being on the show from Pre Production all the way through to Production then shooting in Mexico City for 2 months and then all through to Post. That show was an invaluable learning experience getting to see things through from inception to completion.

Where did you get your start in the community? I got my start from working in a restaurant in Winnipeg and chatting with a customer who turned out to be a Line Producer who was putting crew together for 4 MOW's for Paramount. After calling him every week for 6 weeks I finally interviewed with the Production Designer and got my first job in film!

What do you see as the biggest asset to your sector, relative to the industry in Vancouver? I think the biggest asset to our sector is the incredible talent that we have in Vancouver coupled with the fact that we are all incredible humans which can be a rarity in our Industry.

What do you see as the biggest hurdle for your sector, relative to the industry in Vancouver? I think the biggest hurdle our Post Industry is facing is keeping the Production work in Vancouver through Post and having enough consistent work for everyone.

What support does the Vancouver post community need most now? I think we need to support the 2 unions that are going through an unprecedented strike for the first time in 63 years as our entire Industry faces the emergence of AI and the catastrophic affect it could bring to our entire Industry. All eyes of the world, including other industries, are upon us and how we respond to this could affect generations.

Why did you join the VPA? I joined the VPA to foster connections with the Vancouver Post community and because Brad Goodman asked me to :)

Who was/is your mentor/inspiration/idol? One of my mentors is Franziska Keller whom I worked with at the start of my career. Franzi is an incredible human who knows how to bring the best out of people, leads with humility and professionalism, and knows how to manage a team exceptionally well, all whilst fostering growth and inspiration.

In one sentence, what advice do you wish someone had given you five years ago, relative to your career today? Having worked in the industry for 25 years, I would say I'm a better advice giver than receiver and that advice would be “always lead with kindness”.

What is your favourite pastime outside of work? Outside of work, I spend my time with the 2 loves of my life, my husband and son, dining at incredible restaurants, travelling, and frequenting the beaches in our beautiful province.
