The Women in Post program offers higher-level industry access and professional development for emerging to mid-level women-identifying and non-binary creatives working in all areas of post-production.
The programming includes strategic learning modules, creative and technical skills building, and hands-on mentorship with a post-production company, as well as opportunities to shadow roles related to post-production.
Applications will close on July 23rd, 2026, at 5 PM.

On June 1, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 200 members of Vancouver’s post-production community to another sold-out VPA Summer BBQ at Craft Beer Market in English Bay.
From reconnecting with colleagues and making new connections to enjoying great food, drinks, and one of the best waterfront views in the city, it was a fantastic way to kick off the summer together.
We’re also proud to share that, thanks to your generosity, we raised $1,500 for the BC Cancer Foundation through our raffle fundraiser! Congratulations to our raffle winners, and a huge thank you to our generous prize donors: Western Imperial, Line 21, and Oddfellows.
Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our volunteers, sponsors, dedicated VPA team, and, most importantly, our incredible members. Thank you for celebrating with us, for supporting one another, and for being part of the Vancouver Post Alliance community. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

We’ll also share an overview of each committee’s work and introduce the nominees for the 2026 Board of Directors, giving members a chance to meet them in person before casting their vote.
Interested in helping shape the future of the VPA? Applications for board nominations open March 27, and voting for the new Board of Directors will take place online following the AGM.
After the meeting, we’ll continue the conversation with a Town Hall discussion, where members are invited to ask questions, share feedback, and bring forward ideas. Your perspective helps shape the direction of the VPA, and we’d love to hear from you.

The VPA is thrilled to support VIFF and our community of local filmmakers. This year, we are presenting Bringing Monsters to Life, featuring VFX Supervisor Dennis Berardi, VFX Supervisor for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Straight from the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Berardi will sit down with us on October 11 to discuss his belief that spectacular effects must always serve the narrative. Join us as he shares insights from his work, exploring how modern VFX techniques honour the legacy of practical effects while opening new storytelling possibilities.

Interested in helping shape Vancouver’s independent film community?
The Vancouver Short Film Festival (VSFF) is looking for three Festival Co-Directors to help bring its 2027 festival to life!
VSFF is seeking:
• Co-Director, Programming — Lead film submissions, selection, and programming, and help shape industry programming.
• Co-Director, Development & Communications — Lead fundraising, sponsorships, grants, marketing, and communications.
• Co-Director, Operations — Oversee festival production, venues, scheduling, events, administration, and finances.
The roles run September 2026–August 2027, with a time commitment of approximately 5–25 hours per week, depending on the festival cycle. Most work can be done remotely, with some Vancouver meetings and events.
These are volunteer positions with a $500 honorarium, and all three Co-Directors will need to be in Vancouver for the 2027 festival in May.

Since 2007, this award has supported emerging B.C. directors by providing them with the opportunity to bring an original short film project to life.
One filmmaker will receive:
• $15,000 cash
• Up to $100,000 in donated production services
• A world premiere at the 2027 Whistler Film Festival
Finalists will pitch their projects live at WFF 2026 (Dec. 2–6) before an industry jury.

GEMS Vancouver has two opportunities for BC screen-based creatives that may be of interest to our community!
GEMS Market Ready: WFF
An opportunity for IBPOC women or gender-diverse producers, directors, or writers to take a feature film or series concept to market.
The selected participant will receive:
• Tailored mentorship for their project
• Up to $1,000 CAD towards travel and accommodation
• A pass to the 2026 Whistler Film Festival
• A pass to GEMFest 2027
The program is open to GEMS Vancouver members based in BC, Alberta, or Yukon, and is best suited to emerging or mid-career creatives.

GEMS Vancouver has extended the deadline for submissions to its international film festival, GEMFest 2027.
Films must have a woman or gender-diverse director, as well as at least two women or gender-diverse creatives in eligible key creative roles, including writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, composer, lead performer, or production designer. Films completed after March 2025 are eligible.

Thank you for celebrating Pride with us!
On July 30, VPA members, families, and friends came together at Trout Lake Park for our VPA Pride Asada — and we couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
With tacos, handmade tortillas, street corn, kids’ activities, and lots of good conversation, it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time together and celebrate our 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us, brought their families and plus ones, and helped make the evening feel so welcoming and full of community. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that makes space for connection, allyship, and celebration.
