As we all wake up to 2025’s new realities for the industry, we can take a moment to be grateful for the projects and people we get to work with. Post and Physical production often demand long hours, interacting with creatives who sometimes have difficult visions for a production, and living with uncertainty between shows. But in those moments when all of your creative skills come together to deliver the finishing touches on a production, it creates a great sense of personal fulfillment and an unbreakable bond with the rest of your crew.
That sense of ties within our community is what is also now required as we hear of friends and colleagues in LA struggling with loss after the recent fires, or locally as people are challenged to find work in the industry after an extended downturn in studio production globally. This is when we need to step up individually and collectively to ensure we all survive. Reach out to coworkers to offer support. Take a new member of the industry out for a coffee to encourage them. Or put some work into your own script that has been languishing in the drawer.
The VPA’s Board takes our challenges seriously as well. We recognize the trust you have placed in us to be your voice for industry issues and will continue to lobby for the Post sector when it comes to marketing the industry to the major studios, engaging the government to ensure the stability of BC’s tax incentives, and providing paths for professional development and mentorship.
We look forward to a successful year working together to make the industry strong
for years to come.
