How many years have you spent working or studying in the Vancouver Post Production industry? 8 years back in Istanbul and about 3 years here in Vancouver. I also squeezed in a master's degree in business here - nerd :)
What is your favourite project that you've worked on, and why?
Every project I have worked on has some special place in my heart, but "Bones of Crows" was my breakpoint to actually show and prove my skills in the editorial department here in Vancouver (even though it was quite the challenge) I cannot be more grateful to those who supported me at every level and made the process easier on that project.
Where did you get your start in the community? Studying at VFS, and participating in VPA's events played major roles in getting me started, but my real journey began as a second assistant editor on a few Christmas shows.
What do you see as the biggest asset your sector provides to the Vancouver industry? Whether you're from outside or inside the industry, we all play a role in changing some lives, and I think this is one of the greatest assets in this sector.
What do you see as the biggest hurdle for your sector, relative to the Vancouver industry? Fix it in post.
What support does the Vancouver post community need most now? International students who want to commit to the Vancouver post community should be supported on a broader level. The city needs more qualified and skilled people to chime in more than ever now.
Why did you join the VPA? To expand my network and meet with professionals in all other departments.
Who was/is your mentor/inspiration/idol? This is a tough question for me to name only one person because most of the people I've met and worked with so far are great mentors - Suzanne Thompson, Greg Ng, Rod Deogrades, and Max Wood. David Dewar and Kandi Dibley continue to inspire me every day. Also, a big shout-out to Nicole Ratcliffe and Brad Goodman!
In one sentence, what advice do you wish someone had given you five years ago, relative to your career today? Be more patient and trust the process.
What is your favourite pastime outside of work? Drawing, discovering non-mainstream music, and photography.
