How many years have you spent working or studying in the Vancouver Post Production industry? 14 years
What is your favourite project that you've worked on, and why? What a tough question! There is something really beautiful about each one. I have a warm place in my heart for Brother I Cry written and directed by the incredible Jessie Anthony - she was able to create a film of such passion, urgency, and emotion. And, we were deeply simpatico throughout the process. The scoring process was deeply personal.
What do you see as the biggest asset to your sector, relative to the Vancouver industry? Knowing a wider range of stellar, loving, creative people. I'm grateful that we are a building community. The folks I know (and admire) are collaborative, helpful, patient, empathetic, and excited to collaborate and build up our sector. That means a lot to me.
What do you see as the biggest hurdle for your sector, relative to the Vancouver industry? The gender/demographic/intersectionality divide, and the perception of the quality of Canadian composers. We're amazing! I find it so weird to see that bias when it comes up.
What support does the Vancouver post community need most now? We need a few high-profile projects that really expose how the post audio and music sectors up here are exceptional. We don't seem yet to have been able to achieve the level of profile that many VFX houses seem to have achieved, which is silly.
Why did you join the VPA? I love post! I love how we think about the project - we are the place the movie really truly comes to life. I'm proud to be a part of a community that is responsible for so much excellent quality storytelling.
Who was/is your mentor/inspiration/idol? I have many. Danny Elfman, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Jocelyn Morlock, my nephews, Mica Levi, Wendy Carlos, my high school band teacher Tom Koven for being the first person to put a baton in my hand.
If you could have worked on any series/film ever created, which one would it be, and why? Interstellar. Battlestar Galactica. And, if I could educate Von Trier about intersectional feminism, everything he's ever made.
In one sentence, what advice do you wish someone had given you five years ago, relative to your career today? You have all the time in the world - just not to waste.
What is your favourite pastime outside of work? Cooking
