What is your favourite project that you’ve worked on, and why?
I’ve had a lot of favourites, but one I recently worked on that I really love is The Recruit. It was my first time stepping into the VFX Editor role on my own. I also worked with an incredible group of people, and I truly hope I get to collaborate with them again.
Where did you get your start in the community?
My career began with some volunteer work after I graduated from UBC’s Film Production program. After that, I was fortunate enough to get a position as a telecine assistant at Technicolor. And about a year later, one of my volunteer roles eventually led to an opportunity to work as an Assistant Editor.
What do you see as the biggest hurdle for your sector, relative to the industry in Vancouver?
One of the biggest hurdles is that Vancouver post production is often overlooked by the major projects despite the fact that we have the talent and expertise these they want.
What support does the Vancouver post community need most now?
What I think the Vancouver post community really needs most now is recognition. There’s so much talent here, but it often goes unnoticed. Just being seen and appreciated would make a huge difference. And it would help more major projects realize just how much this community has to offer.
Why did you join the VPA?
I joined the VPA because I wanted to connect with others in the industry, expand my knowledge, and contribute in any way I could.
Who was/is your mentor/inspiration/idol?
There are so many people I could mention, but the one who really stands out as a mentor is Nicole Ratcliffe. She took a chance on me by hiring me as her assistant way back when, and over the years, she has always made time for me.
If you could have worked on any series/film ever created, which one would it be, and why?
A project like The Mandalorian would be amazing to work on because it’s visually stunning and pushes the boundaries of storytelling and VFX … and I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t mind running into Pedro Pascal!
In one sentence, what advice do you wish someone had given you five years ago, relative to your career today?
Connect with as many people as you can and take every opportunity to learn from your coworkers.
What is your favourite pastime outside of work?
I love getting together with friends for dinner, enjoying family time, and catching up on all my favourite tv shows (I have a lot!)
