Tell us a bit about your company.
Annex Pro is Canada’s specialized media production solutions supplier, helping thousands of customers create (and teach) awe-inspiring film & television, animation, visual effects, video games, music, immersive experiences and digital media on screens of all sizes. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Vancouver with offices in Toronto, Montreal and Los Angeles, Annex Pro is strategically partnered with top companies such as Autodesk, Avid, Wacom, Apple, Adobe, Lenovo, Eizo, AWS, Dell, HP, Blackmagic Design and hundreds of others.
How many staff members / freelancers do you employ?
22 full-time staff, coast to coast across Canada not including contractors.
What are you working on right now?
Helping customers assess, acquire and implement media production solutions that will make their next project(s) a creative and commercial success.
What is a favourite project that you’ve worked on, and why?
As much as we like helping companies be successful in media production, we especially love helping higher education implement new technologies that help them recruit and train the next generation of creative and technical talent for our industry.
What percentage of your work is with local vs. international clients?
Almost 100% of our customers are located in Canada, or their projects are strongly connected to Canada. Our customers are concentrated in the major Canadian media production hubs of Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Are you a Mac/PC/Linux shop? Or all of the above?
We are 100% platform agnostic and are proud to be one of Canada’s longest standing authorized Apple Resellers, as well as Gold Tier partners for Dell Technologies, Lenovo and others including Super Micro.
What software/hardware/plugins can you not live without?
Whatever technologies our customers can’t live without 🙂
Are Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision capabilities something you have or are looking into?
Absolutely, Annex Pro is Canada’s “go to” partner with Dolby for Atmos and Dolby Vision. We make it easy for customers to acquire and implement Dolby!
How difficult has the pandemic been for day to day operations?
The pandemic brought new challenges to an industry that was already struggling with “peak TV”, and has been followed up with labour unrest. That said, Annex Pro is proud to have helped many customers weather the storm and stand ready to assist as the industry begins to ramp back up.
Any workflow improvements brought about by the need to work remotely?
Too many to detail here but suffice it to say that we have become experts in helping our customers perform almost any kind of work remotely. Just ask us.
How long have you been a VPA corporate member?
Since the beginning of the VPA!
Is there anything else about your company that you’d like people to know about that we haven’t yet asked?
Annex Pro is at the forefront of helping customers use AI in post production, and recently hosted a live workshop in Toronto called “Fostering Creativity Through the Power of AI” which we would like to repeat for VPA members in Vancouver sometime soon.
