Department Function

The Post Management team is in charge of the entire post production umbrella from prep until delivery to the network/studio.  They manage the post budget and delivery schedule, as well as oversee the creative vision and quality of the project.

Working in this Department

The Post Producer, Post Supervisor, Post Coordinator, and Post PA fall under this department.  These are project management positions that cover the logistics of keeping the entire post process moving on schedule, on budget and overseeing that the creative vision from the director/showrunner is met at each milestone. This department handles scheduling of directors/producers and network/studios for editing notes, scheduling milestones for music, ADR, sound and visual effects, as well as all finishing work. All credit documents are created and approved through these positions as well. The post producer will create and oversee the budget for all aspects of post production and be expected to bring each project to delivery on budget and on time with the support of their team. The key to this sector is to manage expectations of all involved throughout the process: Directors/Producers/Network.

Knowledge

An understanding of the post production industry is helpful at entry level but not necessarily required. Most important when entering a PA position is a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, as all documentation requires both Word or Excel proficiency (or a software similar to). These positions at every step also require an aptitude for multitasking under the pressure of deadlines and being extremely detail oriented. Most correspondence with the vendors, producers, directors and studios/networks is through email, which means it is imperative to articulate oneself in a professional and collaborative manner when writing every email.
