VPA Women in Post Panel

The VPA is thrilled to bring you this exciting online panel where each post production profession will be represented by an inspiring female VPA member who is a master of her craft. 

We will be talking about Post Production as a whole and exploring the creative inputs of each panelist based on their area of expertise. There will be a QA session at the end for anyone who’s interested in asking specific questions. Everyone is welcome to this special Zoom event.

The panel will be moderated by the VPA’s Buket Biles, with panelists:

PANELIST BIOS

Kerry McDowall, Post Producer

Kerry McDowall has been involved in Vancouver’s post-production sector for almost 20 years, working closely with Netflix, Disney, CBC, AMC Studios and NBCUniversal. As an Associate Producer, she leads post production departments on both series television and feature length movies, overseeing everything from budgets to final deliveries (and everything that occurs in between).

She currently dedicates her time and energy at the VPA to uniting and promoting our talented post production community and advocating for equity and inclusion in the broader film industry.

Nicole Ratcliffe, Picture Editor

Born and raised in Vancouver, Nicole graduated from the Foundation Film Program at the Vancouver Film School in 1997 and went straight into post production as an Assistant Editor for a local film production company.  She began Editing on the Sci Fi drama Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda and has consistently worked in scripted drama on major US and Canadian television series and MOW’s such as Endgame, You Me Her, The Bletchley Circle San Francisco, Two Sentence Horror Stories and most recently 4 seasons of Virgin River for Netflix.

Amanda Cawley, Composer

Amanda is an accomplished British-Canadian composer for film and other media. Her original scoring credits include arrangements for award-winning documentaries, TV series, short films, contemporary art productions and commercial advertising. In 2022, Amanda was honoured to receive a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Music, Non-Fiction for Ageless Gardens. She has also been nominated for three Leo Awards for Best Musical Score in Documentary Series. Recently completed works include the animated TV series Fireman Sam Season 13; documentary TV series Ageless Gardens Season 3; and documentary TV series Visionary Gardeners.

Eva Madden, Sound Designer

Eva Madden is a filmmaker and sound designer, with experience in drama, documentary, animation and experimental film. She is a graduate of Concordia University’s Film Production program

May Guimarães, Re-recording Mixer

May is a re-recording mixer based in Vancouver, BC. She has been working in the film industry for over 10 years having started as a production sound mixer back in São Paulo, Brazil. There she got her Bachelor’s degree in Filmmaking, specializing in sound. She has worked in a wide selection of films, tv series and movies, with clients such as Netflix, Disney Channel, Lifetime, Hallmark and independent artists. May is passionate about the artistry of sound for visual media. In her opinion, the technical aspect of the craft is just a component in an incredibly creative and fulfilling process.

Anne Boyle, Colourist

An artist in her own right, Anne Boyle has forged an international career that has taken her from Dublin to Amsterdam and Bangkok to Vancouver. Over her career she has collaborated with acclaimed Cinematographers Jean-Marie Dreujou and Hayk Kirakosyan and directing legend Jean-Jacques Annaud. Coming from a photography background, Anne started her education in the camera department and began to shoot short films and documentaries. Inspired by new developments in technology, she changed course and won a placement at the UK’s National Film and Television School (NFTS) seeking to become a Colorist. Anne had early hands-on experience with Film Light platforms and is considered a “Power-user” on a Baselight X. She is currently Senior Colorist at Picture Shop Vancouver.

Kelsy Wittmann, VFX Producer

Kelsy Wittmann has spent the past 20 years immersed in the film and television industry. She has had the privilege of working as a producer across the broad spectrum our industry has to offer; live action, animation, and VFX projects. Kelsy is proud to have collaborated with clients such as Netflix, Marvel, EA, HBO, Paramount, and the local Atomic Cartoons and Bardel Entertainment. Her credit list includes high profile film projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Fast & Furious 7, 50 Shades of Grey and TV favourites such as Johnny Test, The Mist, The Order S2, and Wu Assassins. She is currently working hard at Animism Studios; where she is the Head of Production. Kelsy is a proud enabler of creative talent and technical innovators.
