Tell us a bit about your company, ZedDrive. Think: PIX, frameio, DAX, WeTransfer, MediaSilo, Moxion, etc. ZedDrive is the only Canadian company that provides this suite of services, we are 100% Vancouver-owned and operated, and we also happen to be the only Black-owned business on earth to provide this service. I'm positive that we can find an easy solution that can work for any budget. We've been battle-tested by Nextflix, Hulu, CBC, Bell Media, eOne... We've done every season of Kim's Convenience, Letterkenny, Travellers and many more TV and film projects (over 400 during our 11 years in business).

Our vision is to give content creation teams the tools to design their own media production workflows from concept through delivery.

What are you working on right now? Aside from servicing our clientele's MOWs, feature films, TV series and documentary projects, we are ALWAYS in development on new features and workflows. We're currently in the early development stages of adding web-based processing and encoding services.

What is a favourite project that you've worked on, and why? We've had the privilege of working on many Canadian feature films and TV series, and some of our favourites were Kim's Convenience for CBC, Letterkenny for Bell/Crave, Travellers for Netflix, and Hardy Boys for Hulu/Disney.

What percentage of your work is with local vs international clients/projects? The majority of our work is with Canadian producers, but we've done our fair share of international productions as well.

Are you a Mac / PC / Linux shop or all of the above? All of the above -- ZedDrive is OS agnostic.

What software / hardware / plugins can you not live without? PuTTY, which is an SSH and Telnet client. Basically, I spend a lot of time reviewing and editing code and PuTTY (and Komodo) are my go-to tools. I also spend a lot of time in Atlassian tools like Jira and Bitbucket and Bamboo. Dev nerd toy

How difficult has the pandemic been for day to day operations? The pandemic changed everything for us. We make a tool to help filmmakers collaborate more easily, but it has always been hard to get the word out and to convince Canadians to look at Canadian solutions rather than always default to using American solutions like PIX, frameio, DAX, WeTransfer, MediaSilo, Moxion, etc. We are honoured to be included here, and appreciate the opportunity to share our story with other Vancouver media professionals.

Any workflow improvements brought about by the need to work-from-home / remote work changes? We're a team of nerds- we were social distancing and working remotely well before the pandemic. ZedDrive | Rushcut is a tool to help facilitate that process and enhance collaboration on film & television projects.

How long have you been a VPA Corporate Member? Almost 2 years.

Is there anything else about your company that you'd like people to know about that we haven't yet asked? Check out our video which explains our history and why we do what we do: bit.ly/About-ZedDrive
