2019 Board of Directors

The VPA is a non-profit society of BC, established on November 6, 2013 by an all volunteer founding board of directors and elected officers. Before becoming official, the board existed as an ad hoc steering committee in the prior year working towards the creation of the organization. Directors are elected to a term of two years, with at least 50 percent of the directors being elected in even-numbered years and no more than 50 percent of directors being elected in odd-numbered years. Kerry McDowall
\Chair




Kerry has been working in Vancouver’s post production sector for over 15 years, working closely with Netflix, MGM, CBC and AMC Studios. She has worked primarily for production companies as an Associate Producer/Post Production Supervisor, though she had also spent two years working at a CG/VFX House as an Executive Producer. As the sitting chair on the Board of Directors of the VPA, Kerry has dedicated her energy to promoting and uniting our talented post-production community here in Vancouver.

Curtis Staples

\Vice-Chair




A career veteran of television and feature post in Los Angeles and Vancouver, Curtis’ experience includes executive management and ownership positions in all facets of the sector: Music Recording, Audio Post, Video Post, VFX, DI, Software Development and Secure Cloud Workflows. Curtis has managed operations, sales, marketing and business development for Pinewood Studios, Alpha Cine, Post Haste, Gastown Post & Transfer, Rainmaker Digital Pictures, International Image, Sonic Foundry and Digital Film Central. Today, as an independent consultant and advisor, Curtis guides Media & Entertainment organizations and corporations in Canada, USA and Europe, with a focus on the migration of workflows to the Cloud. He specializes in the design and development of software, systems and process modifications required for these emerging supply chains in the Cloud. In addition to the VPA, Curtis is a member of SMPTE, MESA, CDSA and HPA. He is a founding director of the Vancouver Post Alliance.



Rick Cederlund
\Secretary




Rick has made a career in the Post Production, Production and Broadcast sectors in BC since 1982. Over his career, Rick has moved from engineering to operations management while working with CTV, Shooters, Finale, Image Engine, NWFX and ultimately serving as VP Operations/Co-GM at Deluxe. Currently Rick is President of Practical Post Consulting and represents SohoNet, a managed fibre networking company, in the Vancouver area. As a founding member of the VPA, Rick has sat as Vice Chair on the board since its inception and heads the Events Committee.

Emanuel Pereira

\Treasurer




Emanuel is an early pioneer in digital cinema, introducing executives at ABC, Disney, and 20th Century Fox to high resolution post production during the advent of digital cinema photography and HD broadcast. His background includes music and picture editing, and since 2004, he has been a Vancouver-based Post Production Supervisor on television and theatrical productions. He began post supervising in Los Angeles on Tortilla Soup, one of the first digitally produced feature films for Samuel Goldwyn Films. Currently he is exploring the possibilities and growth that emerging technologies present in post-production within the entertainment industry. Emanuel is a current and founding member of the VPA board of directors, and advises the board on the structure and procedure of the organization, as well as acting as its Treasurer.




Miguel Araujo
\Director




Miguel started his career in 2009, as a sound designer for an advertising facility in South Africa. After three years of developing his skills, he made his move to North America where he completed his 4th audio-focused diploma, with distinction, at Vancouver Film School. Since 2013, he has accumulated 92 credits in film and television across multiple disciplines, such as ADR/dialogue supervision, dialogue editing, ADR mixing and re-recording mixing. Miguel is an active member of the VPA, ATAS and MPSE, where he also currently holds a board seat. Since 2016, he and his team have put together numerous educational events, aiming to strengthen the post sound community in Vancouver.
Lawren Bancroft-Wilson

Lawren has been working in the film and television industry for the better part of 20 years and made the move over to visual effects in 2011. Coming from a production background, his time has been spent between sets and dark rooms, aspiring to move pixels around just enough to tell a great story. Having worked on the vendor and client side, his focus has always been improving communication, expectations and results in a way that is both sustainable and beneficial for all parties. Working more as a producer recently has allowed Lawren to be more of an advocate for visual effects and post throughout the prep and production phase where that input can be most beneficial. Always eager to meet like minds and push for a stronger more sustainable industry, Lawren brings his talent, passion and snacks to the VPA board.



Craig Berkey
\Director




Craig is a leading feature film Sound Designer, Supervisor and Mixer. He is an Academy Award and BAFTA nominee as well as the recipient of the Cinema Audio Society Award for Best Sound Mixing on No Country for Old Men and True Grit. He has received three Golden Reel Awards and 10 nominations. He has a vast and diverse body of films that crosses many genres. His credits include such films as: Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina, Hanna, The Soloist, Les Miserables, To the Wonder, The Tree of Life, The New World, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Hail, Caesar!, True Grit, A Serious Man, No Country for Old Men, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Superman Returns, X-Men, X2, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, State of Play, X-Men: First Clas, Chappie, Elysium, Hostiles, The Good Dinosaur, and Roma .
Buket Biles
\Director



Buket draws on her experience from working across multiple departments of post production including picture editing, sound editing, and management. Her pursuit of post production began while studying her Bachelors in Communication in Istanbul, Turkey. Following graduation, she worked as a freelance editor for several years, as well as coordinated an award winning sound studio where she worked on more than 30 feature films. After relocating to Vancouver in 2013, she continued her career in post production coordination and editorial. She is currently focused on picture editing and working as an assistant editor. Buket joined the VPA in 2015 and she has been a dedicated member since then. She believes it’s important to keep face-to-face communication in this day of digital age and that the VPA is a great platform to connect the entire post production community. Buket is also a member of CCE.



Brad Goodman
\Director




Brad is a founding member of the VPA and brings more than twenty-five years of entertainment industry experience in post production and visual effects management. He has supervised post for many of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers and has delivered productions to virtually every Hollywood studio as well as many international production and distribution entities. Brad began his career at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. In 1992, he became a freelance Post Production Supervisor. Over the next five years his credits included Death Becomes Her, Casino, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Twister. Brad joined DreamWorks SKG in 1997 where he oversaw post on the studio’s first feature release, The Peacemaker. Other credits include The Good Girl, Far From Heaven, Borat, Religulous and BrĂ¼no. In 2012 Brad relocated to Vancouver and has worked on a variety of projects including Elysium, Chappie, Tomorrowland and The Angry Birds Movie.



Jo Rossi
\Director




Joseph is the owner/operator of FX Squared Sound Design and veteran of 26 plus years, spanning multiple disciplines in audio media, from his humble beginnings in the commercial and music business days, tracking albums for Oscar Peterson, Holly Cole, Patrica Conroy and Lighthouse to name a few, to his film score and orchestral recording days, with the likes of Howard Shore & David Cronenberg on Crash, Cliff Eidelman & Bruce Botnick on Free Willy 3, Bebu Silvetti on Under the Spanish Sky: Placido Domingo, and  Chris Dedrick and Gary Grey on Road to Avonlea. But he never felt so at home until he made the move into post audio production. Son to a McGill music professor, audio is in his blood. His attention to detail has won him a Gemini and a daytime Emmy. But if you ask him what he’s most proud of, he’ll answer the family and friends he’s made along the way.


Brendan Smith

Brendan is the director of post production for Omnifilm. His 20 years of audio and video post production management experience helps him find the best solutions for the varied projects Omnifilm works on throughout the year. Whether it’s a feature film, documentary, drama or factual TV series, or your first short film, Brendan ensures a great post experience delivered with a smile. When not creating post workflows, managing projects and providing tech support he enjoys diving deep into the 4K and beyond post abyss. Yes, he does get outside. Brendan can also be found enjoying a motorcycle ride, taking a hike or photos around Vancouver.

Keith White

\Director




Keith is 20 years into the sound business in Vancouver. Early on, he worked on radio and tv ads and for the last 8 years has been running his own business, where he's created a major following in the sports world.  He has mixed everything from social media ads to full length movies in Dolby Atmos. 
Kelly Wong
\Director




Kelly has been working in the film industry since 2005, mainly as an Assistant Editor. She has lived in Metro Vancouver all her life and on a mission to help bring more union work to this beautiful town. Being a board member on the VPA, she hopes to connect local professionals with employment opportunities.
